Tina [of Equichanics] is an Irish producer and rider based in Devon. Before leaving Ireland as a young rider she was short listed multiple times for both Irish Showjump and Event teams on home produced ponies and horses. Following her move to the UK she continued to compete BS and BE while also achieving her BSc, MSc in Equine Science & Management, a Post Grad Cert in Education to better support her passion for teaching and became an Equine Assisted Growth And Learning Association (EAGALA) Equine Specialist as she delved into incorporating the profound and therapeutic presence of horses on humans. Before starting Equichanics, Tina was a lecturer and course manager for Equine courses both in Further Education and Higher Education, and was part of the team that brought GaitSmart Pegasus, a specialized equine gait analysis technology used for monitoring performance and welfare, to the general public. Tina coaches people with their horses at home, runs a variety of in-hand & ridden clinics and educational talks/workshops about a wide spectrum of horse health and training topics. Tina feels strongly that empathy for the horse is rooted in understanding their biology, and so her Continued Professional Development is most often directed toward bodywork, dissections, neuroscience etc to give extra added value to her clients and make her sessions insightful and very effective. The cornerstone of Tina’s teaching is facilitating a calm, safe and effective learning environment for both horses and humans. Tina combines her practical and academic experience which encourages critical thinking about assessing the horses way of going, performance issues and focuses on improving their abilities ethically so the horse first ethos remains a practical experience, not just a theory. Tina’s speciality at Southcott is running IN-HAND XC clinics. This is for horses and humans of all ages and abilities. Whether it’s a first-time introduction or return from injury, it’s an excellent way to build confidence. Horses get to work out their footwork and balance and gain confidence in themselves. Riders get to observe their horses true understanding of their role; their choice of pace on approach, their balance on take-off, their technique over the fence etc, and how they can help support them. For photos and videos, have a look at the Cross Country album on her Equichanics Facebook page. Updates on any of Tina’s clinics will be under the Event section of that page, and given that she lives only 15min away Tina is always happy to be contacted about private lessons and/or last minute xc bookings.
